OCTOBER 2014

Portugal, Investment Platform for Africa, Latin America, Asia and Europe

Since the introduction of significant legislative changes, especially those introduced in 2014 (reform of the IRC code implementing the “worldwide participation exemption” and Patent Box), there has been a noticeable increase in foreigner investors interested in Portugal.

These changes have set up Portugal as a natural and very competitive European platform to enter the African, Asiatic, Latin-American, and European markets. Portugal has quite a few positive issues that set the country in a favorable position for promoting investments in these continents through competitive tax regimes, regarding other European countries and form the cultural point of view, due to the historic relations with some of these countries, such as Brazil and Angola.

Furthermore, the “Golden Visa” and the Non-Regular Resident programs have also contributed to the increase in foreigner investments.
